I became
passionate about photography years ago as I was travelling
through Asia and Australia and wanted to capture the atmosphere
and beauty of those faraway landscapes.
Quickly I became particularly interested in people photography
and after the birth of my daughter I had many opportunities
to practice on babies too. To perfect my skills I decided
to study photography and became a member of the St Albans
and District Photographic Society.
Compact cameras are great for snapshots and to record holiday
memories etc but more often than not they don't do justice
to the beauty of our children. On the other hand, photographs
taken in a studio can sometimes look artifical and contrived
and not reflect the character of your child. Being able
to offer parents pictures of their child which are really
true to life makes my job really rewarding.
Pregnancy photography is a subject I explored as part of
my photography course. The shape of the pregnant body is
so unique and beautiful that it is a wonderful subject for
black and white photography in particular. Mothers-to-be
usually like to keep a record of this special time.
