I was thrilled when Zoe got in touch a few weeks ago to arrange a relaxed family photography session with her beautiful 2 year old daughter Nelly. Stepping into Zoe’s home I got quite excited about the stunning decor. Beautifully furnished and tidy, with natural colours which made great backgrounds for the images. A photographers dream!
Parents are usually hesitant to get in the shoots. Most parents tell me they hate having their photo taken. But looking back at my own personal photos, my favourites are the ones that include my mum and dad. I always try to find sneaky ways to include parents in the shot, even if they are just in the background. Those images tend to be the ones parents love the most, capturing the connection between them and their child.
Relaxed family photography
Two year old Nelly was in great form, she was more than happy to show me round her house and garden and she even showed me a cute little tea party she had set up!
She also set about looking through beatrix potter books and playing in the bath. Nelly even showed me an adorable little teepee tent! Things around their home such as this ‘Come in we’re open’ sign also made excellent opportunities to take some detailed close up images.
By getting Nelly and her parents involved in reading and various other activities it gave them something to do rather than just stand and look straight at the camera. It also made it a far much more relaxing shoot too.
I had a lovely time whilst watching them have fun and also felt very welcomed into their gorgeous home!
