Photographing a family with older children is a very different experience to photographing the under 5s. With little kids, you just let them “do their thing”, with a bit of direction of course but generally it’s just a question of placing them in the right light and capture them as the action unfolds. Teenagers and adults, on the other hand, are expecting me to tell them exactly what to do, which can be a little daunting the first time but with experience I realised that having more control and time could really work in my favour: being able to fine tune the posing, work on expression and also the chance to get some relaxed group shots where no family member is going to try to escape after a few seconds!
Here is a session from last weekend, a warm sunny day with Lisa and Steven’s family in their beautiful Harpenden home. Their children aged 18, 16 and 14 were just great with the camera, in fact much more so than their parents who kept breaking into fits of giggles!
