Large family photo shoot
Large family photo shoots make the best presents for grandparents. Getting all the children and grandchildren together can sometimes be a challenge to organise but that’s what makes those large family group portraits even more precious.
Whenever I am commissioned to capture extended family portraits, I first try and find out if your family is already planning a gathering, maybe to celebrate grandma’s 60th or 70th or a special wedding anniversary. This could present a great opportunity as everyone will already have reserved the date in their diary. This can be particularly effective if you have all decided to have a special lunch or afternoon tea in a beautiful location such as The Luton Hoo or St Michael’s Manor in St Albans as it offers an obvious location and great backdrop for photographs.
Other options for a family group shot would be your local park, Verulamium Park (see examples in the gallery below) also offers a photogenic setting for a lovely outdoors feel. If one of the family members has a large home or garden we can use this as a venue for the photos, this offers the advantage of having changing facilities and an indoor option if it happens to rain on the day.
“Thank you so much for the hugely enjoyable photo session in our garden. I wasn’t sure what to expect, having never done anything like that before but it was very relaxed and a family day to remember! The photos are simply amazing and I really don’t know how I shall select which ones to have framed!”
As a family photographer, I love to capture a wide range of shots, from posed to candid, so that I can offer a good variety of images should you wish to create an album with the photographs. I will typically capture larger group shots, grandparents with grandchildren, individual portraits of each grandchild and also each individual family unit to make sure that everyone gets the most out of the photo shoot. Those photos can then be gifted to other family members (like parents in-law), making it a very cost effective way of getting your own family photos, when the cost of the session is shared between adult siblings.
Prices start at £249 (plus weekday/weekend session fee) for 3 images in print and digital format (Sweet Collection). Most family order the Digital Collection at £599 which includes all the images from the session in digital format. Bespoke albums and multiple-aperture frames are also available.
