My approach to newborn and baby photography
When looking for a newborn photographer in St Albans to capture your brand new baby you are really spoilt for choice. The good news is that we all have our own style, so you can find the photographer to suit you. Some photographers use a studio, some come to your home, some will pose the baby into curled up positions and some will simply go with the flow. So when it comes to choosing your newborn photographer, it is worth doing a little bit of research depending on the look you are after for your photos.
Because I don’t pose the baby, I don’t really need to photograph them within the first few days after the birth. In fact, I actually prefer it when the baby is a little bit more alert (from 3-4 weeks) so that we can have more chance of getting a nice selection of “awake” shots. It does also give us more flexibility in terms of booking the session and it gives you and your baby a little bit more time to settle down after the birth.
The session takes place in the comfort of your own home and my style is very relaxed. I strongly encourage the whole family to get into the photos, not just your baby! Here are some examples of my baby photography work, as you can see I very much focus on capturing the interaction with the parents and siblings. My own favourite childhood images are the ones featuring my mum and dad too, so even if you’re a little bit camera shy, it is so worth capturing those special moments for your baby.
